Overview

The Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture is a scenic escape known for its coastlines, hot springs, and fresh seafood. A highlight is the Mishima Skywalk, Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, offering stunning views of Mt. Fuji on clear days. Nearby, the historic Mishima Taisha Shrine draws visitors with its peaceful grounds and deep cultural ties.

History lovers will enjoy the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace, a UNESCO World Heritage site from Japan’s early industrial era. For nature and views, head to Izunokuni Panorama Park, where a ropeway takes you to a mountaintop café and observation area.

If visiting in summer, don’t miss the lively fireworks festivals in Izunokuni, lighting up the night over scenic landscapes. Seafood fans should explore Numazu Port, especially a meal at Uogashi Maruten, famous for its generously portioned seafood bowls and deep-fried delights.
