Overview

Hamamatsu, in western Shizuoka Prefecture, is a lively city known for music, industry, and culture. Called the “City of Music,” it’s home to Yamaha and Kawai, and visitors can explore the Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments, one of the largest in the world.

The city also has a proud history. Hamamatsu Castle, once linked to shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, sits in a pleasant park that’s especially popular during cherry blossom season. Nature lovers will enjoy Lake Hamana, famous for boating, hot springs, and eel cuisine, while the sand dunes along the Pacific coast offer wide, scenic views.

Festivals bring even more energy, especially the Hamamatsu Festival in May, with giant kite battles and colorful parade floats.

Hamamatsu blends tradition, innovation, and natural beauty, making it a fascinating stop in Shizuoka.
