During our overnight stay in Kumamoto, we chose Hotel Dormy Inn because it checked all the boxes for location, comfort, and value. This hotel belongs to a well-known Japanese chain that we’ve relied on during many of our trips. The rooms are compact but clean, and the amenities are practical, which makes it a reliable choice for families.

Here’s what stood out for us:

  • Convenient location: Just a 10-minute walk to Kumamoto Castle, perfect for sightseeing.

Our Experience at Dormy Inn

A minimalist Japanese-style room at Hotel Dormy Inn Kumamoto features tatami mats, a round wooden table, two floor chairs, a TV on a low stand, and a paper lantern by the shoji screen window.

Our family room was small but functional, with two single beds and space to spread futons for the kids. Like most Japanese city hotels, it’s not designed for lounging, but it served our needs perfectly. We spent most of the day exploring and only came back to sleep, shower, and enjoy the onsen.

The public bath was the highlight. It was spotless, modern, and surprisingly spacious for a city hotel. Soaking in the outdoor tub felt especially good after hours of walking around Kumamoto Castle and Sakuranobaba Josaien.

Dormy Inn also offers extras that add value. Depending on the location, you might find free late-night Yonaki soba (noodles). It’s a small touch, but one that makes the stay feel more personal and welcoming.
