For a classic ryokan-style stay with elegant meals and unbeatable access to Miyajima’s top sights, Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto is an excellent choice.

Why We Chose Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto
When we were planning our stay on Miyajima, we wanted a comfortable, mid-tier ryokan with good food, a relaxing bath, and easy access to the island’s main sights. Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto checked every box. It’s only a five-minute walk from Itsukushima Shrine (厳島神社), yet tucked away in a quiet area with mountain views.
Spacious Room with a Traditional Touch

Our Japanese-style room was larger than average, with a separate sitting area and plenty of space to unwind. After dinner, the staff came in to set up our futons, but we still had the sitting area to hang out and chat. The balance of comfort and tradition made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped in.
Kaiseki Dinner Featuring Local Specialties

We arrived a little later than planned, thanks to my lost backpack adventure, but the hotel staff warmly welcomed us and guided us straight to dinner.
The multi-course kaiseki (懐石料理) dinner highlighted seafood and produce from the Seto Inland Sea (瀬戸内海). Each dish was artfully arranged and thoughtfully prepared. Our seasonal meal included:
- Fruit wine and appetizers for a refreshing start
- A sashimi platter with incredibly fresh cuts
- Sea bream hot pot, light and warming
- Grilled Hiroshima oysters, smoky and rich
- Hiroshima beef tataki, seared and melt-in-your-mouth
- Sea bream cooked with rice, served as the final comforting course
We especially loved the regional focus. Nearly every dish celebrated the sea and land around Hiroshima.
Traditional Japanese Breakfast
In the morning, we enjoyed a hearty traditional breakfast before heading out to explore Mount Misen. Our set meal included grilled fish, miso soup, pickles, fresh tofu, and rice. It was simple, nourishing, and just what we needed before a full day of walking.
