Yakudon Noodle House in Anbo serves hearty bowls of udon and comforting rice dishes at affordable prices, making it one of the best lunch stops in Yakushima.

A traditional Japanese building, Yakudon Noodle House features a rustic wooden entrance supported by large logs, surrounded by stone and greenery, set under a partly cloudy sky.

Why We Loved Yakudon Noodle House

Yakushima’s wild forests, waterfalls, and trails have a way of working up an appetite. On our way to Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge, we stumbled into the little town of Anbo and found Yakudon Noodle House—a humble, welcoming spot that felt like just the right reward after a morning of exploring.

Cozy Atmosphere with Local Charm

The restaurant has a relaxed, rustic feel. One of the first things we noticed were the cross-sections of Yakusugi cedar displayed on the walls. Each piece revealed hundreds of years of tree rings, a reminder of the island’s ancient forests. Inside, seating is casual and comfortable, and the pace of the meal felt unhurried.

Affordable, Filling Food

A bowl of udon noodle soup from Yakudon Noodle House is topped with tempura shrimp, lotus root, and vegetables, served on a tray with a side of seaweed and red roe. A spoon rests beside the bowl.

The menu is straightforward: steaming bowls of udon, a few rice dishes, and combination sets. Prices range from about ¥700 to ¥2,000, making it a budget-friendly meal. We tried the kitsune udon and a mini katsudon set. Both were simple, flavorful, and exactly the kind of comfort food we needed after a morning hike.

Oceanfront Views

The restaurant sits along the waterfront, so we could look out over the ocean as we ate. The mix of warm food and sea breeze gave the whole experience an extra touch of Yakushima’s character.
