Stroll through Motomachi Shopping Street in Yokohama and discover charming boutiques, welcoming cafés, and a lively international atmosphere.

Why Motomachi is Worth a Visit
Motomachi’s history began in the mid-1800s as a trade route linking Yamate’s foreign settlement with government offices in Kannai. As Western merchants and diplomats moved into Yokohama, Motomachi quickly developed a reputation for imported goods, Western-style tailoring, and European bakeries. That cosmopolitan character still shapes the neighborhood today.
The street now hosts more than 200 shops, ranging from designer boutiques to antique stores. We loved how easy it was to stroll along the tree-lined sidewalks.
Best Things to Do in Motomachi

Shop Local and International Boutiques
Fashion fans will find a mix of global brands, artisan shops, and Japanese labels. From handmade leather wallets to seasonal clothing collections, the variety is impressive.
Try Fresh Bread at Pompadour Bakery

One of our favorite stops was Pompadour’s original bakery, founded here in 1969. Their buttery croissants and seasonal breads are a Yokohama staple, and it’s a great place to pick up a snack.
Pause for Coffee or Lunch
Cafes and restaurants line the street, serving everything from French-style pastries to Japanese comfort food. Many offer outdoor seating, which we enjoyed during the warmer months for people-watching.
Visit During the Motomachi Charming Sale
If you’re here in late February or late September, don’t miss the week-long Motomachi Charming Sale. The atmosphere is lively, and discounts are offered across the entire street.
