Yokohama Marine Tower gives 360-degree views of the city, harbor, and even Mt. Fuji, combining historic charm, modern art, and bayside scenery in one iconic spot.

A cityscape view of Yokohama, Japan, featuring modern high-rise buildings under a clear blue sky. The prominent Hotel New Grand and the iconic Yokohama Marine Tower are visible in the foreground.

A Bayside Icon with History

Yokohama has no shortage of waterfront attractions, but Marine Tower remains a true symbol of the city’s maritime heritage. Built in 1961 to mark the 100th anniversary of Yokohama Port, the tower originally functioned as both a lighthouse and an observation deck. After major renovations in 2009 and again in the 2020s, it has been reborn as a modern city landmark.

At 106 meters tall, the tower isn’t the highest in Japan, but its location by the bay makes the views especially striking. From the observation decks on the 29th and 30th floors, we could see the Yokohama skyline, Yokohama Bay Bridge, Osanbashi Pier, and on clear days, even Mt. Fuji in the distance.

Why Visit Yokohama Marine Tower?

Yokohama Marine Tower rises above modern buildings and a construction crane, with a park filled with trees and flowers in the foreground under a clear blue sky.

Panoramic Views

We visited during the daytime, and the clear skies gave us a sweeping view of the city and harbor. From the observation deck we could easily spot the buildings downtown, Osanbashi Pier, and Yokohama Bay Bridge. The daytime light made the details of the waterfront especially vivid, and we could even make out the faint outline of Mt. Fuji in the distance.

After 6:00 p.m., the 30th floor transforms into a media gallery. Digital art installations mix with the nighttime cityscape, making the experience interactive and unique.

Dining and Souvenirs

Back on the lower floors, we found a small shop selling nautical-themed gifts and Yokohama souvenirs. On the 4th floor, The Terrace Cafeserved light meals and desserts with a relaxed view over Yamashita Park.

Is Yokohama Marine Tower Worth Visiting?

A wide view of a busy harbor with warehouses, docks, and a large suspension bridge stretching over blue water under a clear sky. Yokohama Marine Tower rises in the distance amid industrial buildings and ships along the waterfront.

If you’re spending time in Yokohama, Marine Tower is one of the best places to appreciate both the city and the bay. The mix of history, updated design, and immersive evening art displays makes it more than just another observation deck.
