Overview

Tochigi Prefecture is best known for Nikko, a UNESCO World Heritage destination filled with ornate shrines, tranquil temples, and natural beauty. Highlights include the lavish Toshogu Shrine, the resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and nearby scenic spots like Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji, surrounded by mountains and forests. The quiet Kanmangafuchi Abyss offers a peaceful riverside walk among rows of stone statues.

For cultural exploration, visitors can step back in time at Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura or see global landmarks in miniature at Tobu World Square. Relaxation awaits at Kinugawa Onsen, a hot spring town along the river. Beyond Nikko, Tochigi also features the Oya History Museum, an underground world carved from stone, and seasonal beauty across its countryside.

With its blend of history, spirituality, and nature, Tochigi is a rewarding escape just north of Tokyo.
