Overview

Blessed with sunshine and rich culture, Okayama is a charming city in western Japan known for its gardens, castle, and craftsmanship. Its most famous landmark, Korakuen Garden, is one of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, where ponds, bridges, and teahouses create a serene retreat in every season. Across the Asahi River rises Okayama Castle, nicknamed the “Crow Castle” for its black exterior and elegant design.

About 40 minutes away, the quiet town of Imbe is the birthplace of Bizen pottery, one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions. Made without glaze and fired at high temperatures, Bizen ware has a warm, earthy beauty loved by tea masters and collectors. Visitors can explore pottery studios, galleries, and even try shaping clay themselves.

With its blend of nature, history, and artistry, Okayama and Imbe invite travelers to experience the timeless charm of Japan’s cultural heartland.
