Nagano Prefecture, surrounded by the Japanese Alps, is a paradise for nature and outdoor lovers. Known for its ski resorts and mountain scenery, it hosted the 1998 Winter Olympics and remains a favorite for winter sports. In summer and fall, visitors come for hiking, hot springs, and scenic valleys like Kamikochi.

Historic towns add to the region’s charm. Matsumoto stands out with its striking black castle, while Suwa is known for its lake, hot springs, and sake breweries. The prefecture is also famous for hearty local cuisine, including soba noodles, apples, and mountain vegetables, as well as onsen villages like Nozawa Onsen that invite relaxation year-round.
