We didn’t expect to be so captivated by an aviation museum, but Airpark JASDF Hamamatsu turned into one of our favorite stops in the city. The mix of hands-on exhibits, real aircraft, and the chance to watch live jets taking off made it an unforgettable family experience.

What to Expect Inside
The museum is divided into different zones, each offering a new perspective on aviation.
Exhibition Hall
Three floors cover the history and development of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. Exhibits include pilot uniforms, flight gear, and multimedia displays. Even without Japanese fluency, diagrams and visuals make the content easy to understand.
Aircraft Display Hangar
This space houses beautifully preserved aircraft ranging from fighter jets to transport helicopters. Many cockpits are open, and our kids loved pretending to be pilots inside a T-4 Blue Impulse trainer.
Outdoor Area
Outside, additional aircraft are on display. A shaded viewing platform offers the best spot to see live JASDF planes taking off and landing from the active base.

The museum is just outside central Hamamatsu and is easy to reach by car, bus, or taxi.
By Car
About 20 minutes from Hamamatsu Station. Free on-site parking is available.
By Bus
- From Hamamatsu Station, take Entetsu Bus 51 to Nishiyamachi (西山町).
- From the stop, it is a short walk to the museum entrance.
By Taxi
About ¥2,000 to ¥2,500 from central Hamamatsu, depending on traffic.
