Take a peaceful ride up Mt. Rokko for sweeping views over Kobe and Osaka Bay—just minutes away from Arima’s famous hot springs.

Why We Loved Visiting Mt. Rokko
Arima Onsen may be famous for its mineral-rich hot springs, but one of the biggest surprises during our stay was discovering how easy it was to reach Mt. Rokko (六甲山). From the base of the ropeway, we soared above lush forested slopes and soon found ourselves enjoying panoramic views over the Kansai region, from Kobe to the edge of Osaka Bay.
With its crisp mountain air, gentle hiking paths, and gorgeous vistas, Mt. Rokko makes for an unforgettable side trip from Arima.
What to do at Mt. Rokko

Once you’re at the top of Mt. Rokko, there’s no shortage of things to do. You can kick back and take in the scenery or get moving with a bit of adventure.
We loved the variety, from exploring the charming Rokko Morinone Museum and strolling through the Rokko Garden Terrace to checking out the one-of-a-kind Rokko Shidare Observatory and letting the kids burn off energy at Rokko Field Athletics.
With so many scenic spots and hands-on activities, it’s the kind of place you can happily spend the whole day.
When to Visit Mt. Rokko
Sunset is our top recommendation. Arriving about 30 to 60 minutes before golden hour gives you time to explore before watching the city lights flicker on. Spring and fall are especially beautiful, with seasonal blooms and crisp, clear skies.

Our Final Take on Mt. Rokko

Mt. Rokko is more than just a viewpoint—it’s a refreshing escape from the city and a perfect pairing with Arima’s peaceful onsen town. The ride up alone is worth it for the forest and valley views, but once you reach the summit, the calm atmosphere and open skies truly make it special.
