Why We Loved Visiting Fuji-Q Highland
Fuji-Q Highland in Yamanashi Prefecture is one of Japan’s most exciting amusement parks. It isn’t the biggest, but the combination of world-class rides and Mt. Fuji views makes it unforgettable. Our family found plenty to enjoy, from scream-worthy roller coasters to gentle rides for kids.
Record-Breaking Rides
The park is best known for its legendary roller coasters. Takabisha holds the record for the world’s steepest drop at 121 degrees. Fujiyama, once the tallest coaster in the world, still impresses with its long, smooth drops. And Eejanaika, a 4D coaster, spins riders in every direction for an adrenaline rush unlike any other.
A Scenic Backdrop
Riding a roller coaster while Mt. Fuji towers in the distance is a surreal experience. The mountain feels close enough to touch, making every ride that much more memorable.
Family Fun in Thomas Land
Younger children aren’t left out. We visited the park multiple times when kids were young just to visit Thomas Land. It is a colorful, kid-sized section of the park themed after Thomas the Tank Engine. With friendly rides, playground areas, and plenty of photo spots, our kids had the most amazing fun.

For those who want to stay longer, the Highland Resort Hotel & Spa offers themed rooms, onsen baths, and unbeatable Mt. Fuji views. Staying here makes it easy to combine the park with nearby Lake Kawaguchi sightseeing.
What You Need to Know Before You Go
- Park Hours: Generally 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, and open until 8:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Always check the official calendar before your visit.
- Admission: Around ¥6,000 for adults and ¥4,000 for children.
- Priority Pass: Available to purchase for specific popular rides.
- Insider Tip: If you’re not a big ride fan, the park offers free entry. You can pay per ride, which is ideal for families with mixed preferences.
How to Get to Fuji-Q Highland
By Train
From Shinjuku Station, ride the JR Chuo Line to Otsuki Station (大月駅). Transfer to the Fujikyu Railway Line and get off at Fuji-Q Highland Station. The park is next to the station.
By Bus
Highway buses run from Busta Shinjuku, Tokyo Station (東京駅), and Shibuya to Fuji-Q Highland. Most services stop at the park entrance.
By Car
From central Tokyo, take the Chuo Expressway toward Kawaguchiko IC. Driving takes about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic.
Pro Tip: Arrive early on clear mornings for the best Mt. Fuji views before clouds build.
